I’m in the process of beginning some radical changes to this site.
For over a decade, the LowGenius sites have been my personal trademark. Through various iterations from blog to business to political news, LowGenius.Net and LowGenius.Com have been inextricably mine.
Over the last several months, I’ve had some friends also posting content here – news digests and occasionally commentary.
That’s going to end.
While this ending is coincidental with one of those friends getting involved in some behavior and asserting some positions that have caused me to very seriously question their judgment, that is a coincidence, and is not the reason I’ve decided to return LowGenius.Net to being my own personal rantspace.
The reason for this change is that it’s become inconvenient and deleterious to the truth that I am trying to share, for me to do so by myself and through a website that is associated with me personally. Separating “John Henry, LowGenius” from the more generalized and objective content of the site has proven impossible to achieve, and that has both hurt the virulence of the site and left contributors in a position of appearing to be “mouthpieces” for my own point of view.
In order to promote and assure a more realistic perception of my work and the work of contributors in the public interest, I believe it is best for all concerned that LowGenius.Net returns to being “my” space.
Additionally, I have been maintaining a balance here between my own opinions and personal work, and more objective and balanced news and analysis. I kind of miss just going out and setting up a camera and playing the angry longhair for ten minutes, and letting the chips fall where they may.
But that’s a personal endeavor, and while it is done with the public interest in mind, it’s also not journalism or analysis – it’s performance. There are a lot of people who like that style of performance, and I’ve been leaving them short in my pursuit of journalistic integrity and balance.
I’d like to get back into doing performance work…and in order to do so, I have to separate my personal work from my professional work.
So I am reclaiming LowGenius.Net for my own…and I am launching a totally new project that will focus on the journalistic aspects of what I’ve been doing.
Thus, I am formally announcing the launch of The People’s News Network, at http://www.peoples-news-network.com You can find links there to our Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ presences, and we’ll launch a YouTube channel as soon as we have some content to put on it. (Yes, “The LowDown” will continue to exist and grow, and it will be part of the PNN content, I just haven’t had time to work on it.)
PNN will be focused on news, analysis, and opinion from a variety of perspectives and sources worldwide. It will not be merely a “progressive” or “liberal” or even strictly a “political” site, although there will be elements of all three. I hope to also attract intelligent and reasoned moderate, centrist, conservative, and non-US writers to participate in this project as well.
As it currently stands, the site is only a single article and a carefully-written editorial policy. Over time, it will grow and flourish to become what LowGenius.Net could never possibly be – a news, information, analysis, and opinion site that isn’t just “another one of JH’s projects.” I will be the managing editor; I own the domain name and I’m hosting the site; but it is not “my site.” It is our site, a site for all the people to get quality news, information, analysis, and opinion without the spin, lies, and propaganda of either corporate media, for-profit opportunist sites that push lies and plagiarism while hiding behind an outrageously huge collection of sockpuppet groups and proxies on Facebook and sensationalist hype factories that push contention and dissent rather than facts and critical thinking or who unethically present themselves as affiliated with a given politician to suck money from the pockets of well-meaning supporters of that politician , or conspiracy-theory nuthatches that mislead people who have a reasonable distrust of mainstream media for the purpose of profiting off that distrust by propagating sensationalism and nonsense.
We’ll cover not only politics and social issues but also film, music, television, and literature, and whatever else feels appropriate.
There are, of course, disclaimers about the nature of the content we will provide – those disclaimers are written in to the editorial policy and you’re welcome to read them at your leisure. Some of you have expressed an interest in participating, and I hope you’ll follow up on that with me so we can get you started.
And this site…well, this site is going back to being my personal space, where I can say what I feel about what I want without worrying that it’s not appropriate for the site theme or that it will detract from other people’s hard work.
LowGenius.Net is dead. Long Live LowGenius.Net, and The People’s News Network.
