Changing Pace
The last few months I've been doing these videos, I've been pushing myself to work from a script that I write ahead of time, and I prefer to do that usually.
This time, however, we're going to do things a little bit differently, and I'm just going to go off the cuff, or at least partly off the cuff.
The Video
Constitutionalists
I have seen repeatedly this claim of conservative and "libertarian" politicians and commentators and internet trolls making this claim of being "constitutionalists."
"Well, we can't have Medicare, we can't have welfare, we can't have food stamps because it doesn't say anywhere in the Constitution that it's the federal government's job to do that."
I just caught a clip on The Young Turks of Senator Tom Coburn playing this, and a couple of weeks ago I did a video about Ron Paul and caught all kinds of hell and that was the argument a lot of his acolytes used as well, "OH HE'S A STRICT CONSTITUTIONALIST."
Alright, so.
Resolved: If Medicare and Social Security are "unconstitutional," then it's time we either amend the constitution or throw it out entirely and start over.
I've had it up to my eyeballs with greedy assholes who want to leave children, old people, and the poor to starve in the streets justifying their disgusting selfishness by hiding behind the Constitution. Screw you. If that's "the constitution" then "the constitution" isn't worth the paper it's written on.
And I'm telling you, if that's where you want public opinion to go, you just keep on playing this "strict constitutionalist" crap. I promise you, every time you play that card, people of decency and humanity get one step closer to throwing the thing out the window and starting over.
If you want to be a greedy jerk who would rather let poor people die than tax billionaires and corporations because you're afraid it means you might one day have to give up a couple of inches off your big screen television, or maybe buy a truck that gets more than three miles to the gallon, at least have the guts to admit to yourself and everyone else what you are. Stop being a coward wrapping yourself in the "constitution."
You're leaving skid marks.
That’s What It’s All About
This is ridiculous. I don't know who the hell you people think you are anymore. I'm so fed up with this "oh, we've got to let people starve and we've got to keep people stupid because that's what this country is all about."
No, it isn't. That's not what this country is all about, those aren't the principles this country was founded on, and I don't care who you are or what you do that you think gives you the right to act like this. If you served in the military and you're going to try to throw that in my face and tell me that "you defended the constitution and by god that means we shouldn't have food stamps," then I'm telling you, you ought not to serve in the military because we don't need to be defended by you, we need to be defended from you.
If you're an elected official, I don't care what your excuse is, if that's the way you think you don't deserve to be in office and the people who elected you don't deserve to vote. They're not qualified, because they can't think.
American Values
I am sick to death of watching right-wing demagogues run this country into the ground. Move all the jobs overseas, run wages into the dirt, kill the middle class, leave people without health care, leave people without education, and then blame them. What a load of crap.
And I sit here and I try to be nice about it, and I try to be educational about it, I try to see both sides, I try to find a middle ground, I try to be polite, and what do I get? More arrogant, ass-kissing, power-felching wanna-bes who think that if they just continue to play lick-spittle and bootlicker, and kiss enough ass of power, then maybe when they've subjugated everybody else power will come along and pull them up out of the morass of dirt and filth that they've been put in to because they were good little butt-kissers.
That ain't an "American value," kids.
Christian Nation?
I don't know when we came across this idea that the right wing or that the bible-thumpers have exclusive province to claim that this is their country. "Oh this is a CHRISTIAN NATION!"
Horse shit. We came here to escape institutionalized religion. That's what this country was started for.
So don't tell me about a "Christian nation," and certainly don't tell me about a "Christian nation" when it's going to be all about "let's let the poor starve, and let the old die, so the wealthy can continue to become more wealthy."
That's not "Christian," that's "asshole." If you're going to follow the religion of "asshole" then just admit that you're an "Assholian," not a "Christian."
End Of The Line
Now you do with it what you want to do, but I'm tired of mincing words. This country's got to pull its head out of its ass, and we've got to start by not allowing people to hide behind the constitution to justify their inhumanity, and their greed, and their disgusting, nasty, filthy, nasty, self-serving habits.
If you want to leave people to die in the street, fine. Move to a country where that's allowed, as long as there are still some left. Because they're fading. Because the rest of the world - while you're busy crawling around back there in the primordial ooze - the rest of us are evolving, and we're learning to embrace the idea that caring about other human beings is not a crime or a sin. We're learning to embrace the notion that when one of us fails we have all failed. We're learning to embrace the notion that each and every human being has certain inalienable rights.
Like dignity.
And liberty.
If that's a problem for you, you're in the wrong place, and you might as well just resolve yourself to the fact that the way you think is going away.
As well it should.
