• all regulation and regulatory agencies overseeing environmental protection

• all forms of gun control
• OSHA
• minimum wage laws
• the national weather service
• the library of congress
• the national archives
• all national, state, and municipal parks and recreation facilities
• all limits on hunting and fishing
• all restrictions on government imposition of religious practice
• all forms of insurance whether privately or publicly administered
• water treatment plants
• grants and endowments for scientific research
• prisons and jails

Yeah, utopia awaits. The American dream - you too can be anything, as long as you're rich, white, male, and willing to kill for it.

Food make you sick? Tough.

Medicine make you sick? Tough.

No highways - that's a socialist program.

No snowplows - that's a socialist program.

No search and rescue teams - that's socialism.

No internet - that's a DARPA toy, and that's socialism.

Oil spill in the gulf? Tough shit, guess you got no more gulf.

Tornadoes destroy your house?  Sorry. Would have warned you ahead of time, but the National Weather Service and Civil Defense are socialism.

Invaded by the Chinese? Love to help, but you can't have a standing military without socialism.

Want to know what's in that can of soup? You can read the label...not that there's anyone to force manufacturers to be honest on it.

Want your kids to grow up knowing more than you do? Hope you can afford to pay for it - public education is socialism, you see, and that's big government. Can't have big government.

Let's go ahead and abolish the IRS, too - no sense in collecting taxes if there's no government to spend them.

In fact, let's just go ahead and dissolve the federal government completely, it's too big. And then the state governments too, because those are too big. And city governments - what right does some elected official have to tell you how to live? You just get together with some friends and make your own little community.

You'll have to work out a barter system, though - interstate regulation of commerce doesn't exist anymore, and neither does the US dollar, because of course the Federal Reserve and all federal banking systems and regulation are out the window.

Yeah, this whole libertarian thing is pretty awesome. You'll be able to smoke pot!

THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is the future of this country under conservative policy and ideology.

Is this how you want your kids to grow up thinking of themselves? Vote republican. Is this your American Dream? Vote republican.

Is this what you seek in "small government?" Call yourself a "libertarian" and keep pulling that "R" lever.

Is this how you want to feel your christian love and devotion? Join the tea party.

Do YOU think a person's character is measured by how willing they are to do without basic necessities like health care and education so that those who already have more wealth and material comfort than they could ever possibly need, can have even more? Vote republican.

Because THAT is what the right is all about in this country, and if you are on the right and you are not a multi-millionaire, that is what you support for yourself.

You want your kids to be ground up in the corporate meat grinder until their hopes and dreams for a better world are reduced to hoping they can afford an extra 300 channels of American Idol? Vote republican.

You want your kids to live in a world where being a janitor or button-pusher is something they should aspire to? Vote republican.

You want your children to look around this country in twenty, thirty years and not remember what the "American spirit" felt like? VOTE. FUCKING. REPUBLICAN.

Where would this country be if Thomas Jefferson had said "well the kids at school think the Church of England is really neat, so we should just keep on with that?" Where would we be if James Madison had said "You know, it's really arrogant of me to think I can make a better world than the one across the ocean?" Where would we be if Lincoln had said "Hell yes we're keeping the slaves, don't you know that's their destiny? They're black (I just can’t bring myself to use that other word), they don't need anything more than a few lashes across the back when they get lazy!" Where would we be if the government hadn't said "You know, maybe we should work harder on getting kids educated than turning them out in factories the minute they're old enough to walk?" Where would we be if JFK had said "why the hell should the government get involved in a space program?"

I don't know the answer to those questions, but the SICKENING self-righteous right wing in this country sure seems hell-bent on finding out.

If that's how you want to live, that's your business. 

But you will not make me live that way.
