Been a bit since I had the time to sit and write. There’s a lot going on, and I really only have a few minutes here, so here’s what’s up:
- I’ve decided that the most effective path to what I want to do is creating a non-profit. I will need help with this, if for no other reason than the law requires a non-profit to be incorporated and directed by more than one person.
- What I actually need help WITH, short-term: identifying and filing out forms, grant writing, secretarial/organizational assistance, legal expertise relevant to non-profit organizations (ideally with additional background in IP law – I know I have at least two law profs on my friends list, and at least one of them is right up the street in Ann Arbor…feel free to chime in here, guys…), financial/accounting expertise in payroll, taxes, and ledgers (Keren?)
- The purpose of the organization will be two-fold: first, to help promote Kalamazoo’s artists, musicians, and intellectual talents as a community and destination for artists and ‘thinkers’ to find a creatively energizing atmosphere. Second, to leverage the talents of those same people to reach out into the community via schools and other educational events that help foster interest in the arts and intellect among our young people.
- I’m saving the justification and details for another time, as I have little to spare.
- My job will be primarily to generate and ‘sell’ ideas for cooperative growth in the local arts community for the purposes of generalized profit increase across the local arts and entertainment scene and to ensure the continued growth and encouragement of new generations of performers, artists, and thinkers. This sounds like a little, but can easily amount to a lifelong pursuit that occupies the majority of my time.
I’ve been told a million times in my life that I’m a “natural leader” and all the other attributes that go along with being a “gifted child” whose gifts include a little charisma.
So now I will lead.
Other news: Heading out in a sec to shoot a BUNCH of video. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything new, and I’ve saved up some pretty good rants and raves. Will be trying some new things this time. We’ll see how they work out.
