Phones, quick notes

Having a pretty decent weekend for once, and should be able to take care of ONE nagging expense that’s been keeping me tied up a little by forcing me to spend more money than I have to, to do what I need to do.  It’s a small victory, but it’s a victory.

Edit later:  two small victories, may as well elaborate.  I’ve been using a borrowed “Boost” phone (the local disposable phone company) for several months.  My NC phone number is no longer in service.

The phone I’ve been using has been very useful and I deeply appreciate it, but it’s also a bottom-of-the-line phone that’s several years old and it lacks web and text functionality.  This makes it worthless to buy an “unlimited voice/text/data” plan, or so I thought.  After a few weeks of driving it became apparent that the smaller plans were costing me more per month than the monthly, but it still seemed like a bit of a waste to buy something I couldn’t really use yet.

Then my phone use started spiking, and my costs went with it, so I bit the bullet and bought an “unlimited” month…immediately after which my car charger went wandering again (this also happens maybe once a month).  This phone has an idiosyncrasy in that it doesn’t like all chargers that are ostensibly compatible with it…including all the ones that are quickest to buy in a pinch, like at the local 24 hour gas stations.  As this is now the second time I’ve been through the scenario with the charger, I finally got fed up and bought a new phone.  I moved the SIM card from the old phone to the new one so I can use the month I just bought, and when that’s done I activate the new phone with the new SIM, put the old phone back in the old SIM, and give the old phone back to the dear friend who loaned it to me, with my thanks.

And in the mean time, thanks to the magic of Google Voice, nobody will really notice, except in a month or so you will find me calling you FROM a new number, but you will (hopefully) always be able to use 269.350.3313 to reach me.

Now that my phone time is a manageable and non-scaling expense again, please feel free to call me.  Unless of course you’re a douchebag.

This week’s projects will (I hope) include starting to assemble all of the rambling thoughts re: the local music scene that I’ve written here and written or spoken elsewhere into a comprehensive presentation appropriate for a business audience.  I’ve been quiet about it lately, mostly because many of my thought processes on the matter are complete for the time being and so I’ve no need to articulate them.  Quiet does not mean inactive, however.  The bit about the phone thing above is sort of related, since the new phone is a much more capable information manager than the old.  Last week I went out and introduced myself to a few people and ran my mouth a little.  In another week or two I’m going to go back to those people and start collecting contact information and getting in touch more frequently (when there’s a reason, of course).  The new phone will be a HUGE help with this, since now I can e-mail myself from it :)

I gotta get rolling for work.  Love to everyone.
