Had a busy week. Got killed on Saturday with the WMU-CMU game, but made some fairly decent money for the first time really since I’ve been back. I’ve got Thu-Fri-Sat night this week; hopefully I’ll make enough to get some bills taken care of.
I want to try a ghetto diet, like just eat peanut butter sandwiches for a couple of weeks or something, but I’m concerned with the nutritional aspects of it; need more than just protein and sugar. Bananas are cheap, I could go that way. Ramen is horribly unhealthy, but very inexpensive. I’m eating too much fast food while on the road, and it’s a habit I need to break for both financial and health reasons. I played all the way through ‘Master of Puppets’ at Shawn’s the other night and thought I’d given myself a heart attack. I need to lose a bunch of weight and save a bunch of money, and that’s about the best way I can think of to do it. Putting this band together (“Asylum Lake”) just sharpens things – I’m not going to go out and play if I can’t keep up, and right now I can’t keep up – my cardio’s shot, I’ve smoked too much, and I’m carrying…well, it probably doesn’t LOOK like an extra 70 pounds, but it probably IS. Definitely 40, anyway. That’s 20% more body weight I have to throw around behind that kit, 20% more body weight putting pressure on my lungs when I try to sing. It’s gotta go.
Word on the street is that I’ll have a power cord for my camcorder again soon. I have one unposted rant from California, and one unposted rant that I shot in Utah, that I’m not sure if I’ll ever post. Still tons of pictures to go through as well.
I’m seriously thinkin about ending the ‘web design’ part of my business and repurposing LowGenius.Com for something else. My heart’s just not in it anymore, and I think I could do more productive things with that space.
So, looking at the next three weeks or so, cash-flow wise, here’s the plan I’m hoping to follow:
This week: Get the back bills on my car and web hosting taken care of (including picking a couple of domains back up that I’ve lost). Hopefully this will include setting some cash aside to open a local bank account with, which will definitely make things easier. A huge part of my problem right now is that I can’t get cash deposited into my bank accounts quickly, and things are too tight for me to have money tied up in the mail or whatever between here and NC.
Next week: New phone. The phone from NC needs to be replaced anyway, plus it’s shut off. The phone my friend Lynette gave me is servicable, but old and well-used. Old enough that it makes no sense to buy the $50 unlimited plan because the text and data services are almost useless. The new phone will cost me less than $200 including a month of unlimited service, and then $50 a month afterwards, so I think I can deal with it.
Week after that, get the title, insurance, and registration on my van transferred to MI. Work on finding some basic furniture – a bed, desk, and chest of drawers, so my living space is actually a living space. Depending on how my income holds up, get some business cards for the cab thing. I can use those to drive traffic here and build “PC” (personal call) business that keeps coming back, plus hopefully some of the folks I drive will dig the other content here and spread the word and traffic goes up and ad revenue increases and I get rich and famous and retire to a villa north of South Haven surrounded by beautiful, intelligent, libidinous females who worship the ground I walk on and THEN I’ll….
Whoops. Ignore that last part, that’s for later.
Short-to-medium term, I plan to keep driving cab and working on putting Asylum Lake together and getting it over. I’ll also continue working on new content for this site, as well as deciding what to do with lowgenius.com and my web design business. Having my camcorder back is a big huge deal; not only do plenty of things piss me off, but there are lots of other things to talk about and think about and see and hear out there, and I’d like to start doing some pieces that aren’t just me bitching.
Plus of course music music music. I look forward to generating way too many videos of me playing music. Most of them will probably suck. I will not care :) But I’m definitely interested in watching how my playing improves over the next few months.
Medium-term: Getting two very important things of My Own: My Own place to live, and My Own drums.
Long-term: world domination.
