Let’s have a reality check on this health care thing. The Obama proposals:
- Do NOT eliminate private insurance.
- Do NOT contain any mechanism requiring seniors to volunteer for euthanasia
- Do NOT contain any mechanism to force any given decision regarding end-of-life issues (they DO require that insurance companies PAY for consulting with your doctor about YOUR end of life decisions…coverage that is rare under the current model)
- Do NOT require or enable the federal government to make care decisions
- Do NOT require you to drop your current insurance
- Do NOT create longer or more complicated queues or wait times for medical service
- Do NOT require taxpayer funding of abortions
- Do NOT require coverage for illegal aliens
- Will NOT increase the premiums for your private insurance
- Do NOT require cuts to Medicaid and Medicare
- Do NOT create a heartless bureaucracy that will make medical decisions for you
- Do NOT create any ‘socialist’ mechanism that does not already exist; the ‘public option’ is the same idea as any private insurance, except it’s government-run To wit: Ten thousand people can buy more cheaply than one can; ten million can buy more cheaply than ten thousand can.
- Will not “start us down a path toward government-encouraged euthanasia”
The thing that kills me about this hand-waving, irrational opposition to the Obama health care plan is how often the objections – every one of them based on nothing but hot air – are actually objections to health care as it is now. “I don’t want the government telling me I can’t have treatment my doctor prescribes.’ Insurance companies routinely refuse to pay for prescribed treatments. “I don’t want long waits for care,” but under the current model rather than waiting for care the insurance industry just works diligently to disqualify you from coverage – leaving you with no care at all, i.e. a perpetual wait for care. “I don’t want to pay for abortions,” but we’re currently paying HOW many millions to take care of unplanned children in impoverished homes, children who grow up without adequate health coverage and education to become multi-generational burdens on taxpayers. This is to say nothing, of course, about the flat-out lies promulgated by Sarah Palin and others on the right - “death panels” and so forth.
You are being lied to, America, and you are falling for it….AGAIN. Didn’t we learn our lessons about buying in to scare tactics after it became irrefutably clear that the invasion of Iraq was unjustified by any available evidence and has accomplished almost nothing in terms of stabilizing the region, protecting American interests, or keeping Americans safe, and by most analyses has actually created a greater risk and heightened anti-American hostility abroad?
Are we really ignorant and frightened enough, gullible enough, credulous enough, to fall for this AGAIN? Tell your leaders to stop lying to you about health care: it’s killing us all.
I have the sinking feeling that THIS article won’t be forwarded to every mailbox on the planet…but the lies keep coming.
Demand that your elected representatives stop BEING idiots and stop treating YOU like idiots. Get the facts.
