More video, more talk

(Included video with this post:  “RantGenius:  Tobacco”)

I’ve had some good feedback on my videos – enough that I’ll keep trying to make more, anyway – but still not getting anywhere near the levels of exposure I need to really break out.  I hope they’re getting better with time.  I plan to tackle some more controversial subjects as well – my next vid (already finished, just not published yet because I don’t want to burn out my small audience before they feel moved to really start sharing my stuff around) hits on the damage done to public education by the (generally liberal) focus on self-esteem and test scores over actual education.  I’ve got at least one more in the ‘Beavis Saves’ set, and I cut three more yesterday that I haven’t even captured yet.

It’s a real challenge sometimes to say what I want to say in 5-6 minutes.  There are so many nuances and subtleties and caveats…it’s easy to get lost down the rathole of trying to ‘justify’ what I’m saying, rather than just saying it and letting it stand on its own.  But we’ll see.  Either way, I gotta get something going on – my current living situation is not permanent, and I need to generate some income.  Obviously, “get a job” is a solution there, but…well, look at me ;-).  Jobs are hard enough to come by right now as it is, and I’m not really a guy who looks the part of corporate carrot-chaser.  It works against me.

There’s an opportunity here not just for me, but for a lot of people, to help make something happen that isn’t backed by some giant company, isn’t pushing someone’s corporate agenda, and isn’t controlled by the pressure of advertisers or employers or marketing.  Most of my life, I’ve had people telling me how the things I say make a lot of sense to them, how I should do something like this and get more people listening, etc.  I really, really need as much help as people can give here in terms of spreading the word; I don’t have money to spend on advertising and marketing.  I can’t buy banner advertisements and things like that – all I have is my camera and a website and a little software to make the videos with.  Obviously, donations help too – there’s a link on the right side of the site for those – but more than that, exposure will help.  The more people who see these vids and spread the word – even if they think I’m a complete moron and are just trying to get people to come and argue with me – the better the chance that I’ll be able to keep doing this  The better that chance is, the more likely it is that maybe at some point I can actually give someone, somewhere, something to think about…and that’s how evolution works.

A heartfelt thank-you to those who have been sharing my vids so far…let’s keep building this up!  Share the genius, spread the word, and let’s make this happen!

And with that, I give you a quick rant about the nastiest habit I have and the one I most regret:  tobacco.

Thanks again to everyone for sharing, for your comments, for your inspiration.  I’ll get my next vid up sometime later today.
