Settling In

Thursday, May 28, 2009

Just wanted to get a post up so people didn't think I was dead or something.  I'm settling in nicely to California; Tessa and Jeff have been extraordinarily accommodating and helpful, life is generally good other than the whole lack of steady income thing.

I've got several hundred pictures and a couple of hours of tape I'm still going through bit by bit, and still playing around with ideas for a web show/vlog/whatever, but oddly enough I haven't had a lot of things I've felt like ranting and raving about lately.

I'm sure something will come up :)

One notable thing that hasn't happened - I haven't woke up confused and disoriented, not knowing where I am.  Which, honestly, I expected that I would.

It's hot here, probably hotter than NC, but it's a much dryer heat...which, believe it or not, actually DOES make a difference.  There's also always some kind of breeze blowing.  I have yet to see any form of rain, but I'm told that it does indeed happen.

Mostly, I've been working on my websites.  Specifically for most of this week, I've been retooling the "HelpGenius" helpdesk over at LowGenius.Com and getting things straightened out over there so I can get my clients used to the idea of having a predictable process for dealing with any issues or service requests that come up.  Pretty sure my next real site 'project' is going to be the idea that I'm kind of keeping close to the vest.

Keeping my eye out for work.  I've got a position as a standby/backup photographer for a company out here that does like graduation photos and things like that.  Maybe it'll get somewhere, maybe it won't, but I'm "on the list."  We'll see how that goes - hopefully it'll put at least a few bucks in my pocket while I continue grinding away at trying to get "real" work, whatever that ends up looking like.

Still haven't heard from Sammy.  Bummer...but *shrug*.  I have a lot of genuine affection and love for the woman, but if she can't be bothered to get in touch, there are - so I'm told - at least a couple of other women here in California.

That's the news from here for now.  I'm sure I'll have much more as I get settled in and find my groove.
