Sites about bands and musicians that are, or used to be, part of the unique music scene in southwest Michigan

  • Leon's Temple - Gathering place for 'Zoo alumni. It would be insane for me to try to replicate all of the information that's been assembled here by former Overman/Screwtape energy source Jeff Til. Long-lost music, demos, rarities, and best of all conversation and memories from more great bands and musicians than you can shake a stick at
  • TASMLab - The Til Action Science Media Lab. Newer work from some of Kalamazoo's most famous alumni, most of whom seem to have moved to Boston for some reason
  • Vs. The Suct - The current project of kalamusician extraordinaire Douglas Garnett. Back in the 80's, Doug was hands-down one of the most amazing guitar players anywhere. Now, he's amazing on everything else too.
  • Broadside Productions - Broadside Productions is the recording studio of Mike Roche. Pretty much everybody who picked up an instrument between 1986 and...well, right now in Kalamazoo has been recorded by Mike at one time or another (including yours truly). If you are a musician who has set foot in Southwest Michigan and you've not been engineered by Mike, you simply have not committed your best sounds to permanent recording. Easily one of the best in the country

  • Vanished Kalamazoo - Boy I'd love to rebuild this guy's site for him. A huge collection of photos and memorabilia from places that no longer exist (and some of them were long gone even when I was growing up). If you want to waste a few hours strolling down memory lane, this is the place to do it.

  • Failblog - Schadenfreude on a stick, now part of the I Can Has Cheezburger network. Collected mistakes, goofs, dumb injuries, and general entropy for your enjoyment
  • Not Hired - A LOLCats/Cheezburger-style collection of ridiculous resumes, cringe-worthy Craigslisters, and anacephalic applicants for your viewing pleasure
  • News Of The Weird - Chuck Sheperd's weekly column of things that are just too weird to be untrue
